When I initially saw the series pop up I thought, "another Sword Art Online style series"
It's not just another SAO. While I enjoy SAO quite a bit, this has some refreshing scenarios and shows promise. Four weeks in and it has quickly become a staple in my viewing schedule. The fact it's already dubbed is certainly all the better.
The online world of Yggdrasil is coming to an end, and one of the guild founders has decided to remain until the last switch is flipped and the system goes offline. He has the opportunity to speak with a couple of his team mates or co founders before they log off for the final time. He remains however to enjoy every last nanosecond of the world that will soon be no more.
Moments after everything goes dark, his eyes open again only the world of Yggdrasil has completely changed. The guilds NPC servants remain with seemingly deeply rooted AI's, the construction of the guild HQ remain. Every floor level protector is still at their post. Even better, they view our main character as the Supreme One.
Our everyday salaryman known as "Momonga" finds himself trying to make sense of this new world in his none-human avatar.
After he attempts to use the internal game mail/communication tools fail, he begins to take matters into his own hands and begin to explore, and determine what he has found himself in the middle of.
"From the studio that brought you Death Parade, Parasyte, and No Game No Life comes a series that takes place in the world of Yggdrasil, an MMORPG that’s scheduled to be shut down permanently. With no family or friends outside the game, veteran player Momonga refuses to log out. As the servers go dark, he discovers that the world inside the game continues to change as NPCs begin to develop personalities and minds of their own. With a new world at his fingertips, Momonga decides to use his power and skill to take control of Yggdrasil and become its overlord."
He quickly determines that few have even the possibility to cause him pain or harm. A detail that infuriates at least one of the servants who is passionately in love with him.
So far this anime is a refreshing tell on a online game spin, one I'd recommend all to watch.
Really, it's a amazing anime.
